WoodenBoat Show News
Issue #1 — February 2008

Mark your calendars now! You won’t want to miss the return of the WoodenBoat Show to Mystic Seaport, June 27–29, 2008! Last year’s attendance topped 13,000 wooden boat enthusiasts and marine history buffs. We hope that this year even more of you plan to join us!
Says Carl Cramer, publisher of WoodenBoat magazine, “We are estatic to be returning to Mystic Seaport as it is the place where the WoodenBoat Show comes most alive.” He adds, “Uniting the WoodenBoat Show, the most dynamic in the country, with Mystic Seaport, the premier American maritime museum, creates an unforgettable weekend of excitement that should not be missed.”
So, what can you expect to see at this year’s show?
More Exhibits and Boats
We are planning expanded exhibit space and additional docks. More than 70% of the 2007 exhibitors have already committed to return in 2008, plus there are some great new and exciting exhibitors and boats coming for the first time that you won?t want to miss, including “Ragtime” and the “Lettie G. Howard” from South St. Seaport Museum.
Multi-hull Pioneer Tribute Dinner
WoodenBoat magazine will host a special dinner to honor mulit-hull pioneers Jim Brown, Meade Gougeon, Walter Green, Nigel Irens, Dick Newick and James Wharram. This tribute will be held the evening of Saturday, June 28th and specific details will be announced shortly. Several notable boats from these designers and builders will be on display at the Show.
Demonstrations
Last year’s Demonstration area was one of the most popular events at the Show, and this year’s roster promises to be equally engaging. Try out the tool you?ve always wondered about, learn that splice that?s challenged you, get some tips from master builders and designers for your own projects.
Featured Exhibitor
Pease Boatworks of Chatham, Mass., is introducing their new “Monomoy First Light” series at the Show. This new semi production center console 26-footer couples their 25 years of custom boat building experience with the desire to offer a traditionally handsome vessel that is strong, fast, quiet, fuel efficient and also minimizes engine emissions.
Say Brad and Mike Pease, “Many people believe that a wooden-built boat is the finest. We feel that the effort to integrate modern technology into this time-tested construction yields the best boat you can buy.”
Mystic Seaport — The Museum of America and the Sea
Mystic Seaport offers 19 acres of maritime history, historic tall ships and a working shipyard. Your admission price includes all of the WoodenBoat Show exhibits plus all of the ongoing Mystic Seaport events and displays. Climb aboard the tall ships and imagine life as a 19th century crewmember, or try out a small boat on the Mystic River for yourself.
